Spiritual Direction

The approach I take in providing spiritual direction is rooted in the life, story, and teachings of Christ. I am coming from a deconstructed post-evangelical past and seek to participate in the mutuality of listening that comes from the liberation and healing of the Holy Spirit. Contemplative Christianity in solidarity with the marginalized.

Solitude and silence are not self-indulgent exercises for times when an overcrowded soul needs a little time to itself. Rather, they are concrete ways of opening to the presence of God beyond human effort and beyond the human constructs that cannot fully contain the Divine.
—Ruth Haley Barton

The question is not “How am I to find God?” but “How am I to let myself be found by God?” The question is not “How am I to know God?” but “How am I to let myself be known by God?” The question is not “How am I to love God?” but “How am I to let myself be loved by God?” And finally, the question is not “Who is God for me?” but “Who am I to God?”
—Henri Nouwen

We are the stories we tell about ourselves, and we are more than the stories we tell about ourselves.
